April 14, 2018 NJAGC Meeting (@ Aram’s)

The NJAGC April meeting was held at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 14 2018 in Manalapan, NJ. There were 5 members in attendance – Aram, Darin, Khanh, Darek, and Steve.

First of all, Aram is running a way bigger operation than he’s willing to admit.  Overall Aram has 12+ tanks in his fishroom.  He even has a saltwater tank but we won’t cover that tank since we are mostly interested in a freshwater side of things and we don’t want to lose any more members to the dark side of the hobby.

Let’s start with Aram’s 40G breeder.

The tank has been established in early February 2018.  Right off the bat, the tank went through multiple algae outbreaks.  Aram was ready to throw the towel but with our support, he was able to turn this tank around.

Look at this mess… and yes it is an egg!

And now 2 months later, his tank is thriving with new growth.

Here are some closeup shots of of the plants.

Next, we have Aram’s 20 long tank where he breeds Apistogramma cacatuoides.

The tank also houses several Corydoras sterbai and other miscellaneous fish.

Next we have a small 10g nano tank.

Aram also has many tanks dedicated to Tanganyikan cichlids.

Here we have Darin, Aram and Khan admiring Aram’s fish room.

There is also 75g bowfront Tanganyika Frontosa tank.  Unfortunately, due to fish behavior, his efforts to rescape the tank were futile.

After an hour or two, we sat outside and chatted while Aram and his sons grilled burgers.

Coffee was served shortly after.

Aram, thank you for opening up your home to us.
