April 11, 2026 Meeting at Frank’s

Another great NJAGC meeting and plant swap – and auction for quality stuff at amazing prices. If you’ve been missing these meetings you’ve been missing out. See if you can make the next one!

in attendance were: Carl, Pradeep, Anna (Frank’s lovely wife and host), Kevin, Phil T, Hock, Frank (of course), Vic, Khanh, and yours truly – Scott J.

LOVE Deviled Eggs so had to get a shot…
The food was particularly great with ribs, and burgers as well as Phil’s home made potato salad.
Then down to the basement to see Frank’s tanks…

Great little 12 gal bookshelf tank that sits in front of a south facing window with direct sunlight and there’s very very little algae (?!). Only 2 White Cloud Mountain Minnows here that I saw.
I’ll need one of the members to chime in and tell us what type of Cryptocoryne these are? But they’re doing very well in this setup.
This is Frank’s 125 gal show tank with TONS of fishes! Chief among them gorgeous Diamond Tetras that breed prodigiously in this tank. Frank feeds them 2x a day – with at least one feeding being Baby Brine Shrimp.
Look at the size of this Peace Lilly that’s doing a great job of filtering this tank’s water.
Not shown here is a sump under the tank in the cabinet below for additional water volume and filtering
Carl netting a few Diamond Tetra Females for Kevin…
Where the magic really happens in the fish room…
Water change barrels standing by. Frank treats the water for Chlorine and Chloramine with water conditioner. He likes to keep the water heated to 74 degrees and moving and aerated. This makes for less stressful water changes for the critters – and Frank.
800 watt water heater.
This 75 gal houses Stomatepia and some unidentified Rainbow Fish (because Frank had no where else to put those) The substrate is largely Dolomite. Frank goes on to say “if anyone wants some of the Stomatepia they can contact me. They are from the Congo and are a Cares Fish (critically endangered)”.

Then back upstairs for the FREE plant swap, and SUPER LOW PRICE auction to raise a little extra money for the club.
Special thanks goes to Kevin for always managing to bring GREAT FZone gear and rimless tanks to the auctions! I mean, these are crazy good deals. Not to be outdone is Vic who donated the Glass Lilly Pipes on the right.
Also free wood donated by Phil T !
Khanh is smiling because he got an AMAZING deal on this beautiful tank! And he likes it when I take his picture.
Not sure how this happened but Hock had a German language version of Kasselmann’s book – personally inscribed to Hock, and Carl had an English language one inscribed to him. So they swapped books – so now Hock has the english one made out to Carl. Follow?
